Wearlon® 711-722        - Water Based Anti- Graffiti Coating -

APPLICATION GUIDE AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Meets EPA, USDA, And FDA 21 CFR 175.300 Requirements

Surface Preparation

Read MSDS prior to application. Wearlon® 711 is a clear or pigmented topcoat and should be applied over a pigmented or clear Wearlon® 722 primer. Follow the instructions for the primer, and then topcoat with Wearlon® 711. Degrease and clean all painted, brick, or concrete surfaces prior to coating. For new applications, Steel: SSPC 10, Fiberglass: 80 grit sand, Concrete: 28-day minimum cure. Power wash, acid etch, or brush blast. Aluminum: SSPC 7.

Mixing Instructions

Before mixing, shake or stir each component until homogenous. Wearlon® 711 is a 2 component product requiring an acid catalyst addition prior to application. Wearlon® 711/722 is sold in 1-gallon kits. On porous surfaces such as concrete, it may be necessary to use additional Wearlon® 722 primer. Upon request, an anti-graffiti one-gallon Wearlon® kit is sold containing one liter of Wearlon® 711 topcoat and three liters of Wearlon® 722 primer. For unusual surfaces that have been found difficult to bond to, it may be necessary to use an adhesive promoter, Wearlon® 2020.90, prior to the Wearlon® 722 and Wearlon® 711 application. This Wearlon® kit will consist of 1 liter of Wearlon® 711, two liters of Wearlon® 722, and 1 liter of Wearlon® 2020.90. In each of these kits, a sample of water based Graffiti Off! cleaner is included.

Application and Recoating

For best results, apply Wearlon® 711 with a urethane sponge roller or with a fine tip sprayer. Apply all of Wearlon® 711 as a one-step coat procedure for a thin 0.5 to 1 mil dry coating over a 1 to 3 mil dry Wearlon® 722 coating. The least amount of coating to form a continuous film gives the best results. Wearlon® 711 operates as a sealer coat for Wearlon® 722. Therefore, all that is required to seal the surface of Wearlon® 722 is ONE THIN COAT (less than 1 mil thick) of Wearlon® 711.

Graffiti Removal

In most cases, inside surfaces can be cleaned with a damp sponge. For spray paints, permanent markers or oil based paints, use Wearlon® water based Graffiti Off! cleaner. Mineral spirits, acetone, or mechanic?s hand soap can be used in place of the Graffiti Off!

Unique Properties

System has been designed for high performance areas where hardness is desired, and chemical and abrasion resistance is required. The aliphatic backbone of Wearlon® 711/722 provides excellent UV resistance, which makes it particularly useful in exterior applications. One of the most outstanding features of Wearlon® 711/722 is its non-stick properties and ease of cleaning graffiti. Wearlon® 711/722 is water borne and extremely tough, even at deposits of 1 to 2 mil dry film thickness. At these light deposits, anti-graffiti properties can be readily obtained on wallpaper, signage, and designs where it is extremely important to maintain the natural appearance of the substrates.

Recoating

Because of the thin coating of Wearlon® 711, the Wearlon® surface can be removed by conventional means such as sanding or sandblasting. In most cases, roughing of the surface with sand paper is adequate preparation for painting over the Wearlon® surface.

CAUTION:

  • Wearlon® surfaces have a low coefficient of friction and therefore tend to be slippery.
  • Wearlon® 711 catalyst contains an acid in alcohol and therefore is corrosive.
  • Wearlon® 711 contains acrylic acid. Both Wearlon® 711 catalyst and Wearlon® 711 should be handled with proper eye and body protection while providing adequate ventilation.
